Axis Bank India
Autor Reviews | 20.07.2010 | Category Banks
Axis Bank was the first of the new private banks to have begun operations in 1994, after the Government of India allowed new private banks to be established. The Bank was promoted jointly by the Administrator of the specified undertaking of the Unit Trust of India (UTI – I), Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) and General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC) and other four PSU insurance companies, i.e. National Insurance Company Ltd., The New India Assurance Company Ltd., The Oriental Insurance Company Ltd. and United India Insurance Company Ltd. The Bank today is capitalized to the extent of Rs. 358.56 crores with the public holding (other than promoters) at 57.57%.
The Bank’s Registered Office is at Ahmedabad and its Central Office is located at Mumbai. Presently, the Bank has a very wide network of more than 713 branch offices and Extension Counters. The Bank has a network of over 2904 ATMs providing 24 hrs a day banking convenience to its customers. This is one of the largest ATM networks in the country. The Bank has strengths in both retail and corporate banking and is committed to adopting the best industry practices internationally in order to achieve excellence.
Axis Bank prides itself as a young and vibrant organisation and recognises its employees as its greatest assets. Consequently, the employee satisfaction level in the Bank is, possibly, amongst the highest in the industry, and does not stem from the compensation package alone.
Comprising of people drawn from different specialisation and divergent backgrounds, the employees merge into a highly homogeneous working group, catalysed by the informal and transparent HRD policies pursued by the Bank. In addition to an attractive compensation structure, Axis Bank also offers leased housing facilities, medical and health insurance and loan options.

Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta
Autor tdomf_2061d | 20.07.2010 | Category MBA in India
The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC) was established as the first national institute for Post-Graduate studies and Research in Management by the Government of India in November 1961 in collaboration with Alfred P. Sloan School of Management (MIT), the Government of West Bengal, The Ford Foundation and Indian industry. The foundation stone of the Joka campus was laid by Sri Morarji Desai, the then Dy. Prime Minister of India on Dec 15, 1968. The Institute moved to its present campus in 1975.
INFRASTRUCTURE
The 135-acre campus of the Institute has a cluster of Administrative and Faculty Office Blocks, fully equipped classrooms, seminar and conference rooms, Management Center for Human Values, residential quarters for students, faculty and staff members, library, an executive training complex, a bank and a post office. The 750-seat state-of-the-art Auditorium is the latest addition to the campus. The institute is located in its own sprawling 135 acres campus in Joka, away from the hustle and bustle of the metropolis.
The campus has four hostels that provide single room accommodation to students with modern amenities and recreation facilities. All the hostels have their own coffee shops, canteens, photocopy units and printer rooms. Every room has its own network connection, which enables fast and round-the-clock Internet access. The hostels also have intercom facility in all the wings. For the visitors, the institute provides guest-rooms. To take care of the married students’ needs, the institute has provided separate accommodation facilities for them.
The institute has always attached special importance to the use of information technology by the academic community. The institute deploys a network of around 1000 PCs, 4 digital Alpha servers, one IBM RS-6000 server and seven Novell file servers. Through a 2MBPS and 64 KBPS radio link with VSNL users get unlimited access to the Internet. A host of electronic databases like Bloomberg, Prowess and Capitalize providing information on the global and Indian corporate world are also accessible likewise. The institute’s Bidhan Chandra Roy library was started initially with a liberal Ford foundation grant, and over the last 36 years has grown into a major learning resource center in South Asia.
Placement
The most sought after companies in sectors like Consulting, Financial Services and IT made quite a number of offers at IIM Calcutta. IIM Calcutta proved to be the hunting ground for top notch consulting companies with firms like McKinsey and Company, The Boston Consulting Group and AT Kearney looking to recruit in large numbers. One of the noteworthy aspects of Placements at IIMC is the increase in number of sectors for which students were recruited. Companies in sectors such as Insurance, BPO, Shipping and Holiday Services made their presence felt on campus in 2007. An important aspect of placements in 2007 was the phenomenal success of the Lateral Placement Programme meant for students with significant work experience. Despite a much smaller pool of candidates with work experience as compared to the previous year, there was an increase in both the number of recruiters and the number of offers made. This year, companies participating in the Laterals Programme also recruited for positions abroad. IIM Calcutta encourages and nurtures independent thinking and the ability to explore unconventional avenues. As in the past, this year as well, there were students who chose the entrepreneurial path over the relatively easier corporate route to success. One of these students, the founder of the Adventure Club at IIM Calcutta, which is the first of its kind in any Management School in India, has decided to follow his dream of scaling greater heights by starting his own organization
Admission Procedure
Admission to the post graduate programme is through a three stage process where different abilities of the candidate are assessed. The IIM’s conduct the Common Admission Test (CAT) for the assessment of the Quantitative, Analytical, Verbal, Logical and comprehension skills. Upon clearing this stage the candidate is further tested for his/her attitude and aptitude for management education through Group Discussions (Stage 2) and Interviews (Stage 3). Admission is dependent upon various other parameters which keep changing in different years. A good score in CAT would mean a good chance for an admission as the written test is given the maximum weightage among all three stages. A three year’s bachelor’s degree or equivalent in any discipline recognized by the AICTE / AIU.
Amitabh Bachchan
Autor Reviews | 20.07.2010 | Category Film Personalities
Amitabh Bachchan is the older of the two sons born to Teji Bachchan and Harivansh Rai Bachchan , the acclaimed Hindi poet. He was born In Allahabad on October 11 1942. He receved his schooling at Sherwood College, a boarding school in Nainital, and then moved to Delhi University for his Arts degree. His first film `Saat Hindustani’ sank without a trace. However, fame was his in `Zanjeer’, and he was instantly accepted (and adored) in the role of the `Angry Young Man’ an image that became his calling card. `Deewar ‘ followed and further reinforced it.
He became the hero who filled people’s hearts with hope. In his films, he fought the corrupt system and the power brokers a situation that appealed to the youth of the early-seventies. Amitabh emerged as a different kind of an action hero, as a Messiah, a Superhero, who seemed like an answer to all people’s problems. Analysing this actor’s impact on society would probably need a thesis by itself.
Amitabh Bachchan has appeared in over 150 films, many of them, particularly those from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s, were huge hits. He married Jaya Bhaduri, herself an accomplished actresses, at the peak of her career.
Due to his enormous popularity, not to mention the close association with the Gandhi, family, he was elected to parliament with a huge majority from his home city of Allahabad. But his stint in politics came to an abrupt end when he was embroiled in some political scandals. He gave up his seat in parliament, swearing off politics forever. His name was later cleared from the controversy.
He took a sabbatical from films for a few years. In this period, the actor grew a beard, flaunted his grey hair and floated his company ABCL. The exercise caused him more pain than gain. After five years, he announced his return to the 36mm but the magic had faded. He was no longer the `Angry Young Man’ As an actor, he cannot be faulted, yet `Suryavansham’, `Bade Miyan Chotte Miyan’, `Lal Badshah’, `Mrityudand’, `Major Saab’ each one of them crashed at the BO.
Recently, Amitabh took on a new role, as a host of the television show `Kaun Banega Crorepati’ and created history once again. He is back where he belonged. In people’s hearts. In their homes of people four times of week, charming them in that deep baritone of his. The Big B on the Small screen.
The new millennium has seen Amitabh Bachchan in the spotlight again, albeit in a different avatar. Bagging the No.1 spot on the BBC’s millennium poll earlier in the year, he has undoubtedly been this years household favourite having charmed prime time audiences with his Kaun Banega Crorepati, the Indian version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire, which changed the TV ratings game in India. Now he joins the 400 other wax statues at Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum in London. After an initial survey conducted by the British Tourism Authority to select an Indian film star for a statue, Bachchan polled the largest number of votes among the short-listed stars for the honour which included Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya Rai and Anil Kapoor,

2009 Mazda6 Review
Autor Reviews | 20.07.2010 | Category Mazda Cars
Back in 1987, Mazda wanted a big piece of America’s midsize pie. So the Zoom Zoom brand requisitioned an idle plant from the Ford empire. For two decades, even with heavy fleet sales, Mazda’s family sedan struggled to utilize a quarter of the plant’s capacity. Ford re-assumed managerial responsibility in the early 1990s. A few years ago, The Blue Oval Boyz moved Mustang production into the Flat Rock factory to take up some of the slack. For 2009, Mazda’s totally redesigned the Mazda6. Will the new car finally fill Flat Rock?

Delano Hotel – Miami Beach, Florida
Autor Reviews | 20.07.2010 | Category USA Hotels
Designed by Philippe Starck and located in South Beach Miami’s Art Deco District, the Delano’s beauty blends into the Atlantic Ocean. Within 12 miles of Miami International and five miles away from Key Biscayne this hotel has a private island feel, on the mainland. Each room features Delano’s signature all-white guestrooms, and compliments the rest of the artistic destination. No need to worry, room service is availible 24 hours, so you can enjoy your favorites or try something new no matter when the mood strikes you.
The Delano features all the luxury of many private resorts, wrapped up into one beautiful hotel. The hotel also offers a business center, fitness facility, family rooms, dry cleaning, convention space, meeting rooms, and a friendly staff that will help you enjoy all of Delano’s pleasures. So pack up your bags and come join us in paradise, there is so much in store for you here at the Delano Hotel in South Beach Miami.
South Beach’s undisputed destination for celebrities and those who want to be them, this towering art deco compound was transformed into a surreal retreat by quirky star designer Philippe Starck back in 1995–and it’s still hauter than ever. The 250-foot-long lobby corridor is like an entryway to a fantasy world of stealth wealth, where sheer white drapes sway from the ceilings and insouciant rich types mingle among some of the world’s most iconic and unusual “living room” pieces–nary a glance is made at the $9,000 Eames La Chaise or the priceless gold Salvador Dali chair featuring high-heeled shoes as feet. Contrasting the colorful exuberance of the public spaces, the 208 lofts, one-bedroom suites and pool bungalows are awash in breathtaking virginal white. To take the larger-than-life sensation even further, guests can head to Agua, the hotel’s sprawling rooftop spa offering 360-degree views.
Hits: The design is unlike anything else in Miami and the Blue Door Restaurant, with its three distinct spaces, offers non-hotel guests an opportunity to experience the hotel’s environment and globally-tinged menu of delights.
Misses: The pool area–visible from Blue Door’s outdoor patio–is enticing but inaccessible to non-hotel guests. Also, prices can be as absurd as some of the furnishings ($62 per person for Sunday brunch? Chairs in the form of a Moroccan woman?). Yes, that’s right.
