Hayabusa

Autor Reviews | 17.02.2009 | Category Suzuki Bikes

Hayabusa originally named Suzuki GSX1300R, was introduced by Suzuki for the first time in 1999. Since the date Hayabusa was regarded as the fastest motorcycle in the world until the recent voluntary speed regulations the manufacturers imposed on the bike.

The bike is named Hayabusa after a Japanese term for the Peregrine Falcon, the fastest creature on the planet. The Falcon moves at a speed of 300 km/h. It is no exaggeration that the bike is named rightly and it moves faster than any other motorcycles. The bike reaches from 0-100 km/h in just three seconds flat.

After several modifications Suzuki has launched Hayabusa 2008 which the company claims, compared to the original, the hotter than ever. The new Hayabusa’s engine is thoroughly updated for more power and an improved power-to-weight ratio, which you’ll experience as an even greater rush of acceleration. Its refined chassis and suspension help provide crisper handling. And its striking new fairing offers sleeker aerodynamics.

The 1340cc, DOHC liquid-cooled engine with 16-valves, Twin Swirl Combustion Chambers provides 11% higher performance then the previous models and smoother operation. New Suzuki SDTV fuel injection system with dual injectors per cylinder and ram air intake with large volume air-box allows the rider to choose from three different engine settings depending on riding conditions or rider preferences.

Lightweight titanium intake and exhaust valves with narrow 14 degree valve angle for high combustion chamber efficiency. The lightweight aluminum alloy pistons feature a revised shape and a higher compression ratio of 12.5:1 for maximum performance in all conditions. SCEM (Suzuki Composite Electro-chemical Material) plated cylinders minimize cylinder size and improve heat dissipation and new hydraulic cam chain tensioner for reduced mechanical noise.

The ventilation holes at the cylinder skirt for reduced pumping losses and increased performance. High efficiency curved radiator features dual electric fans controlled by the ECM for increased cooling capacity. Oil cooler now has 10 rows cores for increased heat dissipation. Ion plating treatment utilizing PVD (physical vapor deposit) method is applied to piston rings providing a smoother surface treatment for increased durability, reduced friction loss and reduced oil consumption. Slick shifting 6 speed transmission working in conjunction with an innovative back torque limiting clutch for smooth and controlled down-shifts

Fully adjustable inverted front fork featuring DLC coated inner tubes for minimal friction resistance and outstanding suspension performance over a variety of riding conditions. Lightweight and rigid twin-spar aluminum frame minimizes weight while maintaining high torsional strength.

Hayabusa is not just a powerful bike, bike a power generator that makes you feel on the top of the world at each second you are on the riding seat. Every person who loves to ride bikes, aspire for a Hayabusa, which is of course a bit costly, but cheap compared the the performance it offers.

Yamaha YZF600R

Autor Reviews | 17.02.2009 | Category Yamaha Bikes

Yamaha introduced the YZF600R several years ago, it was Yamaha’s cutting-edge 600cc sportbike, featuring fully adjustable suspension, front and rear, (preload, compression and rebound), good tires, thorough instrumentation, and very streetable ergonomics and wind protection. Shortly thereafter, Yamaha introduced the R6 — a bike much lighter and much more aggressive from a sportbike perspective. The R6 was the “no compromises” sportbike.

Yamaha continues to manufacture and sell the YZF600R, because it offers a very comfortable and practical alternative to the R6. What you get with the YZF is a 600 that is heavier and less focused on hard core sport riding, but with trade offs that make it a much more practical mount.

yzf600r

The YZF600R has excellent mid-range power for a 600 — even compared with more current designs. The carbureted engine has good throttle response after it warms up (like a lot of carbureted bikes, it is a bit cold blooded). It might lack the top end rush of some of the other 600s available, but the motor works extremely well at sane rpm levels, and is very flexible.

The ergonomics and wind protection, simply put, are the best in the 600 class. The bar/seat/peg triangle is far less severe than most other 600s, with the exception of Kawasaki’s ZX-6R. The Kawasaki also offers excellent real world comfort, but the YZF has it beat in this regard.

The fully adjustable suspension is outstanding. Indeed, we were a bit surprised at how well it worked, both on the street and on the track (yes, we took the YZF to a track day at California Speedway). Its standard settings are very plush, yet reasonably controlled on the street. The added weight the bike carries is actually a plus in most street riding situations, reducing the unsprung weight of the machine as a percentage of its overall weight. The YZF600R proved to be an excellent freeway mount here in Southern California, where high speed travel can unsettle many bikes. The bike felt completely planted at elevated speeds.

Moreover, the 600R has a balanced feel cornering on the street. It changes directions easily, holds its line through corners well, and is largely unaffected by mid-corner bumps. Excellent.

The YZF600R has a very large, comfortable seat, both for rider and passenger. We took some long trips with a passenger, and, once again, passenger comfort easily surpasses that offered by most modern sportbikes.Ground clearance is more than you would typically need on the street, and adequate for the track, as well.

Where the YZF600R really shines, however, is on the street as an all-around, every day, do-it-all machine. With large capacity gas tank (5 gallons), good touring range, low vibration, and the comfort discussed above, the YZF600R offers a very strong package to the person who uses their bike for more than Saturday morning blasts through the canyons, but still wants high handling limits.

Bajaj Pulsar 200

Autor Reviews | 16.02.2009 | Category Bajaj Bikes

Bajaj Pulsar 200 is the first bike in India to feature both front and rear tubeless tires, which besides offering superior stability are safer than conventional tube types and in sync with the offerings abroad for similar applications. The rear tire is the broadest in its category to ensure better road grip and stability. The bike comes equipped with an Oil cooler, which helps control engine oil temperatures at sustained high speeds and rpms, thus ensuring more stable engine oil viscosity. The 200cc DTS-I engine generates 18 Ps of raw pulsating power to provide riding excitement to performance hungry bikers. This makes the Pulsar 200 the most sporty and stylish powerhouse on two wheels to pace the Indian roads.

The new digital console is an advanced version of the latest Pulsar family. Apart from the Digital Odometer, Digital Speedo Meter, Digital Fuel Gauge and two Digital Trip Meters, the console on the 200 cc Pulsar DTS-I has indicators for Air filter condition, Engine temperature, Battery voltage and Oil level, all of which contribute to enhancing rider info for trouble-free riding.

pulsar-200

The DTSi technology helps the motorcycle have a phenomenal performance augmentation and it was introduced for the first time in Bajaj Pulsar. Twin Sparkplugs for better and faster combustion in Bajaj Pulsar. 2 spark plugs at the either end of the combustion chamber helps in better and faster combustion Ignition handled by Digital C.D.I: A digital cdi powered by 8 bit microprocessor chip handles the spark delivery thus gives maximum efficiency to the bike. Constant velocity carburetor in Bajaj Pulsar: The CV carburetor provides high level of performance. When comes to cruiser bikes power and style is the deciding factor but with proven engines style occupies the centre stage. The two bikes derive their styling from their previous version and have added some interesting features. Pulsar 200cc derives its identity from 180 and 150. Bajaj’s new additions in Pulsar 200cc are:-

Black paint theme carried over to the front fork legs, the rear shock absorbers, and the swing arm, in addition to the engine and six spoke alloy rims, for deadly looks. It also showcases a lowered Headlamp/Fairing assembly along with a high tail-end, giving it an aggressive, ready to pounce stance. Pulsar 200 has an all Stainless Steel silencer with an aluminum muffler can for genuine sporty looks and long life. Sleek, Twin row, Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs) derived from the upgraded pulsar 180cc along the split grab rail perfectly compliments the new rear chiseled looks.

Pulsar 200cc is lengthier than new Karizma but its wheelbase is shorter than new Karizma which means you have to be careful with the Pulsar 200cc while negotiating a turn. Both the bikes offer disc at the front and drum brake at the rear as a standard feature. With the MRF tubeless tyres at the front and the back Pulsar gives excellent traction control. Even though Karizma features a 276mm disc at the front a little larger than 260mm offered in pulsar, the massive 150kg Karizma comes to halt in 18.36m from 60kph as against 16.47m taken by pulsar 200cc from the same speed. Both the bikes offer a commanding position for riders. But with split seats and carefully placed foot rest the pillion in the pulsar 200cc gets better visibility. The split seats are not only meant for the sporty look, but also resides a modest lockable and cable released storage under it.

Bajaj XCD 125cc DTS-Si

Autor Reviews | 15.02.2009 | Category Bajaj Bikes

bajaj_xcd

Bajaj XCD 125cc DTS-Si was launched in September and it was expected that the company will manufacture 20000 units of the bike initially that will be increased to 50,000 units in the coming months to increase the production. This would make it the highest produced bike of the market. The key attractive feature of the bike is its cost and the introduction of the engine range XCD 125cc that will give it an increased performance in to be between the 100cc and 150cc.

The look and technical specification of the bike are taken from Kawasaki. The XCD design is also a feature imported from Kawasaki. The bike is stylish and decent .It has black visor. The bike had a bit aggressive in looks and has graphics on the tank. The bike had some traditional features like the clear lens indicator and 5 spoke alloy wheels and also some new added features are large headlamp and twin pilot lamp. Bajaj Pulsar 220

Autor tdomf_2061d | 13.02.2009 | Category Bajaj Bikes

Bajaj has launched Pulsar 220cc, this is definitely male among the Indian bikes. The new Pulsar DTS-Fi (Digital Twin Spark-Fuel injected) is the first bike from Bajaj Auto with the powerful combination of twin spark plugs and fuel-injection technology and is an ultimate machine for the performance motorcycle enthusiast. The latest offering has set new benchmarks in technology, performance, and styling to address the needs of a growing segment of pro-bikers. The 200cc Pulsar is said to be the best looking and handling of the Pulsar Family. However, people have yet to see whether they will age as easily as its predecessors will.

A contact-free digital speedometer drive displays precise speeds in a digital read-out. An engine-redline flasher strobes out its communication when the bike is over-revved; the same light doubles up as a low-fuel warning icon. Bajaj has persevered with the same tank on the 220, adding embossed decals and a tank pad. The stepped seats are adequately padded for both rider and pillion and ends in a smart two-piece grab bar. Angular side panels and a smooth tail fairing add panache, as do strips of nifty LED brake warning lights.

pulsar-dts-fi-220

The 220cc oil cooled, Digital Twin Spark Fuel Injection (DTS FI) engine produces an awesome power of 20PS at 8500rpm (though not comparable, pulsar 220cc is more powerful than thunderbird) and an incredible torque of 19.12Nm at 6500rpm. Bajaj’s well-proven exhaust TEC (to beef up low-down power) features in pulsar 220cc too. Pulsar 220cc features the standard five-speed gearbox with one down and four up pattern. Oil cooler placed just below the fuel tank helps in further cooling of engine lubricant and keep this high performance engine cool.

Pulsar DTS-Fi can reach 60kph in 4.4 seconds and can past 110kph in 18.8sec. Pulsar 220cc can reach a top speed of 131kph. Not alone this top speed is impressive; you can easily maintain the pulsar 220cc in 100 -115kph. Though the fuel efficiency/mileage depends on riding behaviour you can expect anything more than 35kpl from pulsar 220cc DTS FI. Bajaj is offering impeccable warranty for its pulsar 220cc – the DTS FI engine has been given 5yrs warranty in addition to the 2yrs or 30000km vehicle warranty.

The wheelbase has been lengthened to 1,350 mm from 1,330 of the older Pulsar, along with a new swing arm. Pulsar 220cc DTS-Fi uses telescopic forks at the front and Gas-charged twin shocks are used at the rear. A twin-member tubular frame and an elliptical swing arm mounted on needle roller bearings. This combination gives a good blend of stiffness and flick ability for the bike though pulsar 220 weighs 150kg. MRF tubeless tyres —90/90 x 17 inches at the front and 120/80 x 17 inches at the rear provide good support and traction control for pulsar 220cc DTS Fi. This high performance bike is the India’s first bike to have a rear disc brake although this will help for the effective control; safety in Indian conditions is yet to be seemed.

The tyres of the new DTS-Fi are tubeless and hence offer an exciting riding experience. The 55-watt projector low-beam headlamp offers a decent view of the road ahead. The fully digital dash is easy to read and difficult to mistake. The distinctive tail lamps of the Pulsar DTS-Fi add a bit of dash. Overall, the body of the motorcycle still looks like the Pulsar family, but with sharper edges. The front faring is the difference – It is well integrated into the rest of the bodywork, and the sidelights and indicators look excellent. With a performance motorcycle, one should really not expect a high fuel efficiency/ mileage figures – still we expect the Pulsar DTS-Fi to get around 45 kilometres to a litre.

It is comfortable all right, but there is a hitch. The fixed fairing comes back a bit too much and unless you are sitting so that the tailbone is touching the seat step, your knees will be rubbing on the fairing. That is a bit uncomfortable. I guess when you are riding it in jeans; it would grip the tank quite hard before hitting the brakes hard. In riding pants, the armour has that privilege of being very intimate with the fairing end. Shorties – I’m guessing 5?5? and below will not notice this.

In addition to the features mentioned in design section, both these bikes have special features, which increases their practicality. Pulsar 200cc also leaves its drive chain exposed with O’ ring sealed, which is pre-lubricated to help it stay reliable inspite of running open without protection is one such example. Similar to its sibling Pulsar 220cc-soon to be launched, the pulsar 200cc bike throws away the kick lever and makes you to crank the engine only with your thumb unlike the Karizma, which offers both self, and Kick mechanism for cranking. Both these bikes use best instruments and unheard features in any Indian bike. Both Pulsar 200cc and the new Karizma have Digital odo Meter, Digital Fuel Gauge and Digital Trip Meter. Pulsar 200cc features a digital console, which uses only LEDs and intelligently varies its amber backlight intensity for viewing in either day or night.

In 220cc Pulsar the most important feature of all is the fuel injection mechanism, which is responsible for the quick throttle and the linear power curve. The Bajaj Pulsar DTS-Fi is the first Indian motorcycle with an oil-cooled engine. Together, they make for a potent combination. The Hero Honda Karizma as well as the Pulsar DTS-Fi weigh 150 kgs, and the extra 3 bhp of the DTS-Fi as well as the power delivery characteristics make this an easy Karizma-beater.

honda-cbf-stunnerWell, most talkative thing of the bike is its styling. First thing you will notice its extended extra large cowl. Seriously, that is the only thing you will remember about the bike. The other things you will note will its split seats. That is something other chosed not to introduce in Indian market in small bike but Honda decided to put it on.

The two panel rear sharp cowl is not that much sharp and noticeable to a extent. The rider’s position is sporty and you can judge from the foot step holders. Headlight looks something as I have seen already, well not much refreshing yet good looking.

CBF Stunner will be available in three variants viz. Self Disc Alloy, Self Drum Alloy & Kick Drum Alloy. YZF R15

Autor Reviews | 12.02.2009 | Category Yamaha Bikes

The YZF R15 is the India’s first bike with 150cc liquid cooled engine. Yamaha has brought lot of advanced technologies which are usually used in higher displacement engines for this 150cc bike. Here are few highlights of YZF R15’s hi-tech engine.

YZF R15 makes use of DiASil (Die-casting Aluminum-Silicon) cylinder. The DiASil Cylinder is an all-aluminum cylinder made possible by an exclusive Yamaha aluminum forging technology. Because it uses a 20% silicon aluminum alloy, it is possible to create a cylinder wall that is so hard and durable that it eliminates the need for a conventional steel cylinder sleeve. And, because the cylinder is all aluminum, it has excellent heat dissipation qualities (cooling capacity is improved by 60% and reduces engine weight (by 30%) at the same time.
yamaha-yzf-r15
YZF R15 makes use of forged piston (India’s first) which enables lighter piston design and excellent power developement. YZF R15’s 4-valve combustion chamber adopts centrally mounted spark plug and six hole type injector which leads to path breaking performance.

A compact radiator cools the engine to maximize stablity and performance. Similar to the R1, Yamaha has adopted a six speed transmission for its new 150cc YZF R15. Optimized ratios will help you to keep the motor singing in the high-rpm range throughout all the gears.

YZF R15 must be the most compact bike in its class. It’s overall length is 1070mm, overall width is 670mm and its wheels base is 1290mm. Since sporty YZF R15 is shorter too and its height is just 1070mm. YZF R15 150cc features F 80/90 -17 inches tyres in the front and 100/80-17 inches tyres in the rear. Both the tyres are tubeless.

TVS Apache RTR – 160

Autor Reviews | 11.02.2009 | Category TVS Bikes

TVS Apache RTR with its shapely streamlined tank and engine design is really an eye stopper. Its smooth and flawless finish makes this bike desirable to the market.

Its tough but light 6 spoke black alloy wheels with red rims are really supportive for better control and excellent riding of this two wheeler. Its uniquely designed head lamp and turn signal lamps has become one of the best head turner in the market of two wheelers.
tvs_apache_rtr_160
It has a uniquely alloy finished one piece brake pedals and levers that makes your drive an safe one on any sort of tarmac. The bike has an extraordinary racing stripes, luminous rims and race crouch mirrors that evokes the fantasy of any speed freak. Its aluminum foot pegs, split grab rails at the rear along with the silencer canister and beat gives it a complete touch of perfection.

Clamped on with a rather uninspiring nomenclature RTR 160 (cc) the new Apache, thank-fully, isn’t just a sticker job. Okay, the fuel tank and front fairing and wheels aren’t different, but you’re bound to notice the ‘racing intent’ even when you see it from a distance. In fact, so sure was the Apache design time about the bike’s visual appeal vis-as-vis the current 150cc version that they urged us to have a look from a distance first.

The new Apache RTRs’ instruments are digital, with rev counter remaining analogue. Twin trip recorders, a fuel counter, time-clock, digital speedometer, odometer, neutral icon, high beam icon, turn signal icon, low fuel warning system, low battery level and even a service due warning icon are on offer within this amber backlit display.

Classy touches are an alloy brake pedal and footrests. The Apache 160 retains an identical fuel tank and body panels, but has now upgraded to clear lens turn indicators, and an LED tail-light system on its raised stern. The rear fender and silencer exit area are altered while the numberplate region is now illuminated.
The old Apache motor adopts a new cowl and has undergone major changes, to up capacity from 147.5cc to 159.7cc on the new RTR. The larger capacity RTR uses the short-stroke mantra to become quicker revving. This air-cooled and twin-valve unit has received several internal tweaks, including attention lavished on its inlet and exhaust ends, clutch and gear processes as well as the combustion chamber. The gearbox remains a five-speed unit, shifting in the ubiquitous one-down and four-up pattern-the RTR 160 differing from the Apache 150 to use a sporty toe shift lever.

The RTR 160 is what TVS calls the new street-legal version of its competition Apache. What it means is it gets technology, like spherical combustion chamber, among other things, on the track coupled with law-dictated bits, like a saree guard!

RTR stands for Racing Throttle Response. Essentially, TVS Racing have been involved more than ever before in the development of this motorcycle. The engine has grown to 159.7cc and it’s more than an overbore. The motor’s stroke was cut down to 52.9 mm and then the bore grew to 62 mm. The RTR is rated at 15.2 bhp (at 8500 rpm) and 1.31 kgm (at 6000 rpm). On the track, the RTR proves to be a crisp flyer. Throttle response is immediate. The 160 will blow through 60 kph in 4.8 seconds, 100 kph in 17.69 seconds and reach a top speed of 118 kph.

India’s first petal disc bolted on the front axle. And instead of the usual 240 mm rotor, it wears a full 270 mm unit. That’s the same size as a Karizma. The disc is powerful and it produces seriously quick stopping action. The RTR also has two-way adjustable clip-on handlebars, LED tail lamp, rearset aluminium pegs and aluminium levers etc.
