Canon strengthens its PowerShot range of digital cameras with the addition of a new SX “Super Zoom” model: the 9 Megapixel PowerShot SX110 IS, which replaces the popular SX100 IS. Featuring a 10x optical zoom with optical Image Stabilizer – plus a 3.0” LCD – the Canon PowerShot SX110 IS delivers outstanding telephoto reach in an even more compact and lightweight body. A full range of Canon technologies – including Face Detection Technology, Motion Detection Technology and a new Easy Mode – help everyone take great photos, while experienced users can also enjoy the creative possibilities offered by full manual control.

With a 10x Canon optical zoom – featuring a 35mm film equivalent focal length of 36-360mm – the Canon PowerShot SX110 IS brings even distant subjects into view, making it the perfect camera for everything from school sports days to family holidays. Canon’s optical Image Stabilizer technology combats the effects of camera shake, delivering sharp, blur-free shots throughout the camera’s extensive zoom range.

The Canon PowerShot SX110 IS uses a lens shift-type Image Stabilizer (IS) system to detect and correct slight camera shakes that can cause image blur. Minute vibration gyros detect lens tilting caused by hand shake. These signals – 4,000 per second – are processed by a single-chip IS controller, which discriminates between hand shake and unintentional camera movements. Shake signals are sent to the IS unit, which moves one of the lens elements accordingly to deflect the light rays and cancel out the effects of shake. For improved accuracy and responsiveness, the moving lens element is supported on tiny ceramic spheres. In addition to minimizing friction, ceramic spheres avoid some of the problems that can affect metal systems, such as thermal expansion and magnetism. The optical IS of both models allows photographers to shoot at shutter speeds up to 3 stops slower with no perceptible increase in image blur due to camera shake.

Canon’s Face Detection AF/AE/FE/WB system automatically detects up to nine faces within a frame before adjusting focus, exposure, flash and white balance to ensure optimal results. The Face Detection system of the PowerShot SX100 IS is able to determine which faces are intended to be the subject, instantly reverting to the partnering 9-point AiAF system if no face is the primary subject. Face Select & Track allows the user to select a particular face to be the main subject of a photograph and track it, for the best possible results.

The Canon SX110 IS features a wide range of 20 shooting modes designed to achieve optimum results in a wide range of lighting conditions – a great help for users of all levels, from complete novices to more experienced photographers. Shooting modes include a new Easy Mode, which sees all shooting settings chosen automatically by the camera – perfect for beginners prone to making unsuitable adjustments. Easy Mode also limits Playback options to simple image viewing and deletion functions. At the other end of the spectrum, experienced users can switch to full manual control, and customize settings for special effects or unusual lighting. To keep shots looking sharp, Motion Detection Technology – activated in High ISO Auto mode – uses Face Detection Technology, the optical Image Stabilizer and scene information to identify subject motion and camera-shake. ISO is also optimized for minimum blur and maximum image quality.

The PowerShot SX110 optical 10 times, it’s easy, your picture will be a permanent memorial dramatic, emotional close-ups to get the zoom lens. This magnificent lens, the power of the distance subject with razor-sharp precision and stunning lifelike color can be taken. So, sparkling trees and birds, the stadium and the school play from the last row of children from around the goal of winning a high peak can be captured. In addition, Canon’s advanced optical image stabilizer, thanks to technology, with the biggest zoom all the pictures of the rocks steady.

Canon Powershot SX10IS can capture shot for fast, slow, close up and far away action. It comes with the latest technology such as a wide angle (28 x 560 mm) 20x optical zoom, a 2.5 inch LCD screen, 10-megapixel resolution, built-in OIS (optical image stabiliser, and new DIGIC 4 Image Processor for high-performance face and motion detection.

Its 20x super-zoom that comes with a massive 28-560mm focal length can easily capture any shot from wide-angle to long-range telephoto.

With a host of automatic features, the Canon Powershot SX10IS 10MP digital camera enables you to take high quality images with little hassle. Those who are used to using Canon\’s SX series will immediately notice a great improvement in image quality with the new model. Its 28-560mm lens captures amazing pictures putting in head and shoulders above other camera models of its class.

The new Canon Powershot SX10IS 10MP digital camera has a DIGIC 4 image processor that increases the rate of noise reduction delivering high image quality a high ISO speeds. It also has a new I-Contrast feature that automatically adjusts contrast rations for better transition between light and dark shades.

Another impressive feature of the Canon Powershot SX10IS 10MP digital camera is its impressive 20x optical zoom. This zooming capacity is way above your average set of binoculars. While testing out the zoom in my living room, the camera can easily capture crisp and bright images of some small prints across the room.

This new model has a 2.5 inch LCD display, which in my opinion, seems a tad small by today\’s standards. I personally would prefer a bigger display screen more than anything else. All in all, in my books, the Canon Powershot SX10IS 10MP digital camera is still one of the best cameras in its class.

With DIGIC 4, you can produce high quality photos. Its Face Detection Technology allows you to take better portraits. You can now get sharper motion photos with Motion Detection Technology. SX10IS\’ new i-Contrast feature produces natural-looking detail in dark areas of photos.

The Canon PowerShot G10 features a 14.7 megapixel sensor and 5x, 28-140mm zoom. The Canon G10 also offers a large 3.0” PureColor LCD screen with 461k dots, DIGIC 4 image processor, Canon’s new i-Contrast system which increases the dynamic range, and Servo AF mode to continually adjust focus on a moving subject.

Canon\’s PowerShot G10 digital camera is a direct successor to the company\’s previous PowerShot G9 model, and at a quick glance the cameras are pretty similar externally. The Canon G10 has grown just a little larger than the G9 in all directions, though, with the biggest increase being an extra third of an inch (6mm) of height. The Canon G10\’s handgrip and optical viewfinder have been reprofiled, and probably the biggest visual difference is that the right hand control dial on the camera\’s top panel is now a double-decker. The smaller upper dial controls camera modes, and the wider lower dial allows control of ISO sensitivity on the camera body — a bit more photographer friendly than hiding this important setting somewhere in the menu system as many cameras do.

Internally, the Canon G10 retains the same 1/1.7-inch CCD image sensor size as its predecessor, but boosts resolution from 12.1 to 14.7 megapixels, along with upgrading the previous model\’s DIGIC III processor to a DIGIC 4 type that allows for servo AF tracking. At the same time the zoom lens loses a little reach, dropping from a 6x optical zoom in the previous camera to a 5x zoom in the PowerShot G10. This is probably an acceptable tradeoff for most uses though, as the G9\’s rather restricting 35mm wide angle becomes a useful 28mm wide angle in the newer camera.

With a 5x wide-angle (28mm) optical zoom lens, the PowerShot G10 combines outstanding wide-angle capabilities – making it perfect for landscapes, architecture or interiors – with the telephoto reach needed for flexible composition. Sharp, blur-free shots throughout the zoom range are assured by Canon’s optical Image Stabilizer, which offers enhanced performance via a 4-stop advantage.

Canon’s new DIGIC 4 image processor uses improved algorithms and calculation accuracy, allowing the PowerShot G10 to deliver two major advantages: ultra-fast operation, and rich, low-noise images with outstanding clarity and colour reproduction.

DIGIC 4 also powers several intelligent onboard features. Canon’s new i-Contrast feature increases the dynamic range in images to bring out previously unnoticed detail in dark areas, like shadows – without blowing out lighter areas.

Canon’s anti-blur solution combats blur caused by camera shake and subject motion using a range of technologies: optical Image Stabilizer, Motion Detection Technology and Auto ISO Shift, plus new Servo AF – which, when engaged, continually adjusts focus on a subject moving towards or away from the camera.

T77 is a 10.1 Megapixel Super HAD CCD Image Sensor features 4x optical zoom (35mm Equivalent : 35-140mm) with Optical SteadyShot image stabilization; Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens, Face Detection technology (up to 8 faces); Smile Shutter technology, 15MB built-in memory; compatible with Memory Stick media, and a 3-inch widescreen, touch-panel Clear Photo LCD Plus; Intelligent Scene Recognition.The camera measures W x H x D: 3 3/4? x 2 3/8? x 19/32? (93.6mm x 57.2mm x 15.0mm) and weighs approx 4.4 oz (126g).

The Cyber-shot DSC-T77 is an ultra-slim camera made almost entirely of metal. The camera is well put together, with even the normally flimsy battery door being sturdy.

Ergonomics are a mixed bag, and I\’ve already complained about that sliding lens cover. Since the camera relies on its touchscreen interface to control its features, there are hardly any buttons to be found. Those buttons that you will find are on the camera are very small, and the zoom controller is ridiculously small. While there is a spot for your thumb on the back of the camera, the touchscreen interface ensures that you\’ll have fingerprints on the LCD in no time.

The 10-megapixel T77 camera is Sony’s thinnest model at less than 5/8 of an inch with a 3-inch, 16 x 9 touch panel LCD screen. It features updated intelligent scene recognition technology, Smile Shutter™ and face detection technologies with child and adult priority, as well as high sensitivity shooting (up to ISO 3200), eleven scene modes, and in-camera image management.

The T700 model earns extra points as a “photo album in your pocket.” It has all the features of the T77 unit plus 4GB of internal memory that can store nearly 1,000 full-resolution or 40,000 VGA-quality photos; a 3.5-inch, wide touch panel Xtra Fine LCD™ screen for photo-like viewing (210 pixel-per-inch resolution) with high contrast and wide-angle viewing; and a thin profile (slightly more than 5/8 of an inch) so it can easily slip into a pocket or purse.

“Sony is taking the lead in developing “intelligent” cameras so that taking great pictures is an automatic function and not a complicated process,” said Phil Lubell, director of digital camera marketing at Sony Electronics. “This is part of our effort to enhance the camera experience for customers by offering new functionality.”

Like all of Sony\’s recent cameras, the Cyber-shot DSC-T77 has built-in memory instead of having a memory card included in the box. The T77 has a paltry 15MB of onboard memory, which holds just three photos at the highest quality setting. Thus, you\’ll want to get a large memory card, and fast. The DSC-T77 supports Memory Stick Duo media, and I\’d start out with a 2GB card.

The DSC-T77 can use two different batteries: the included NP-BD1, and the optional NP-FD1. The only difference between the two is that the FD1 has the InfoLithium feature, which allows the camera to tell you exactly how many minutes of battery life you have left. Both batteries have just 2.4 Wh of energy, which is about as low as you\’ll find.

The Sony Cyber-shot T500 is a new 10 megapixel digital camera that can also shoot HD movies. Video is recorded at 1280×720 pixels at 30fps in the MPEG4 AVC/H.264 format, with a continuous shooting time of up to 10 minutes per clip. The Sony T500 also features a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens with 5x optical zoom and optical image stabiliser and a large 3.5-inch touchscreen LCD. Available in a choice of piano black, silver and red finishes.

Movie capture on this model is further enhanced to include zoom while in recording mode and high-sensitivity shooting for natural- or low-light environments. The camera can continuously record a video clip up to 10 minutes in length. It can hold hours of clips by expanding the camera’s capacity with a Memory Stick® media card (media sold separately), which now has capacities up to 16 GB. It also features a dual photo and video capture mode. Simply press the photo button while in movie mode and capture up to three photos with no recording interruption.

The T500 camera integrates a wide (16:9), 3.5-inch (measured diagonally), transflective, touch panel LCD screen for easy navigation, framing and viewing in strong light conditions. It has a Carl Zeiss® 5x optical zoom lens with a wide field of view (33 – 165 mm, 35 mm equivalency). It incorporates Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization and high sensitivity settings up to ISO3200 helps combat blur and facilitate flash-free shooting for natural-exposed photos. The model also incorporates face detection technology, an intelligent function that automatically detects up to eight faces in the camera frame and adjusts focus, exposure and flash.

The T500 camera connects to a compatible HD television via an HDMI™ cable (sold separately). Photos and videos can be enjoyed as slide shows in high definition for a cinematic experience. Subjects can take center stage as slideshows move through sophisticated pans, fades and wipes. Slide shows are given a boost with background music, including use of up to four pre-recorded music tracks of up to five minutes in length. You can even add your own tunes, using the bundled software.

The T500 wears a 5x (33-165mm) Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar optic with a maximum aperture range of f/3.5-4.4. It’s a different zoom than the one used on the T700, but it incorporates the same internally contained design: the lens has no protruding parts, with all movement of the zoom performed inside the body of the camera itself. Such designs are ingenious for pocket cameras, as there’s no lens barrel to damage. Conversely, lenses of this type tend to show the adverse effects of the design compromises involved – mostly in the form of soft images.

Other key features include a face detection system capable of locking onto up to eight faces, Sony’s advanced in-camera slide show tools that allow the addition of sophisticated shot-to-shot transitions and the incorporation of background music, and HDMI connectivity (via an included dock) for easily getting playback to an HDTV.

With the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T700, shoot all day and shoot all night if you please and that is because you can. With a mammoth-sized internal memory of 4GB storing up to 40,000 VGA-sized images or up to 950 high resolution images, you can shoot an entire photo collection into this camera without worrying about having a memory card. Should you need more capacity however, an additional slot can accept Memory Stick Duo Media. A 10.1 megapixels Super HAD CCD image sensor rewards you with brilliant detail and clarity for every photo you take. Fixed with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 4x Optical Zoom Lens, it provides extra close-up shooting towards your subject and can scope out the details up to just under 1cm in the Magnifying Glass Mode.

The T700 replaces the DSC-T300 in Sony’s lineup. Like that camera, the T700 has a 10-megapixel, 1/2.3-inch Super HAD CCD sensor, wide 3.5-inch touch-screen display, f3.5-f10 35-140mm-equivalent Carl Zeiss lens (though the zoom range drops from 5x to 4x), Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization, and shooting features like Smile Shutter, face detection with child- and adult-priority control, and iSCN Intelligent Scene Recognition. However, along with improvements made to the LCD’s picture quality (921,000 pixels up from 230,000) the T700’s internal memory jumps from 15MB to 4GB–3.7GB available for photo storage–as well as support for up to a 16GB Memory Stick DUO PRO card. The internal storage combined with the 3.5-inch touch-screen LCD and the bundled Sony Picture Motion Browser software is what turns the camera into a digital photo album.

Measuring a little more than 0.6 inch and weighing 5.6 ounces, the T700 is ultraslim and light. We tested a brushed silver version, but it’s available in gray, red, pink, and gold, too. The camera has an elegant feel with a full metal body up front and sides, and nothing but screen on the back. In fact, the only physical controls are the power and shutter buttons on top and the well-positioned zoom rocker at the right corner. The only other button is a small Playback mode button at the top right of the display. On the bottom is the battery/Memory Stick compartment, a proprietary connector for use with the included USB/AV cable, and a tripod mount. To take a picture you simply slide down the flat, metal lens cover and click away. You’ll want to be careful of errant fingers getting in shots and touching the lens, however, as the lens is positioned at the far left.

Sony’s high-contrast Xtra Fine display is quite good. At its Normal brightness setting, I had no problem seeing the screen in direct sunlight. Well, no problem after wiping away fingerprints; the T700 seems to collect more than most. If having to wipe off fingerprints is a deal breaker, you’ll want to skip this camera and probably all touch-screen models for that matter–of which there are more and more. Aside from fingerprints, you might take issue with the touch screen’s responsiveness. I found the T700’s to be fine with fingers, but better with the included stylus (or “Paint Pen” as Sony calls it) likely because I could be more precise with it. It clips onto the wrist strap and allows you to quickly poke around the three onscreen menus (Home, Menu, and Display) along with the in-camera retouching and painting tools (you can add stamps, frames, or draw on pictures) all while keeping the screen free of fingerprints.

For clear, blur-free results, the Optical SteadyShot image stabilisation provides effective stops to blurring. Thanks to a high ISO 3200, you can take pictures indoors or in low light without the need for a flash. The Sony Cybershot T700 featured Face Detection technology detects up to eight individual faces and can even distinguish between children and adults. The fun Smile Shutter technology can automatically detect and capture smiling faces. Shooting has never been made so satisfying with the 3.5-inch Xtra Fine LCD touch screen display, a wide-viewing angle display that shows a breathtaking resolution of 921k pixels and delivers extreme ease for menu navigation with touch screen operation.

Navigating the camera settings is easy enough. The Home menu gives you access to all the main features and options, while the Menu screen provides context-sensitive options; for instance, if you’re taking still pictures, you get all the shooting choices like scene modes and resolutions. The DSC-T700 offers 10 scene modes–including a new Gourmet option for shooting food–as well as the typical auto features.
