Sony DSC T77

T77 is a 10.1 Megapixel Super HAD CCD Image Sensor features 4x optical zoom (35mm Equivalent : 35-140mm) with Optical SteadyShot image stabilization; Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens, Face Detection technology (up to 8 faces); Smile Shutter technology, 15MB built-in memory; compatible with Memory Stick media, and a 3-inch widescreen, touch-panel Clear Photo LCD Plus; Intelligent Scene Recognition.The camera measures W x H x D: 3 3/4? x 2 3/8? x 19/32? (93.6mm x 57.2mm x 15.0mm) and weighs approx 4.4 oz (126g).

The Cyber-shot DSC-T77 is an ultra-slim camera made almost entirely of metal. The camera is well put together, with even the normally flimsy battery door being sturdy.

Ergonomics are a mixed bag, and I\’ve already complained about that sliding lens cover. Since the camera relies on its touchscreen interface to control its features, there are hardly any buttons to be found. Those buttons that you will find are on the camera are very small, and the zoom controller is ridiculously small. While there is a spot for your thumb on the back of the camera, the touchscreen interface ensures that you\’ll have fingerprints on the LCD in no time.

The 10-megapixel T77 camera is Sony’s thinnest model at less than 5/8 of an inch with a 3-inch, 16 x 9 touch panel LCD screen. It features updated intelligent scene recognition technology, Smile Shutter™ and face detection technologies with child and adult priority, as well as high sensitivity shooting (up to ISO 3200), eleven scene modes, and in-camera image management.

sony_t77The T700 model earns extra points as a “photo album in your pocket.” It has all the features of the T77 unit plus 4GB of internal memory that can store nearly 1,000 full-resolution or 40,000 VGA-quality photos; a 3.5-inch, wide touch panel Xtra Fine LCD™ screen for photo-like viewing (210 pixel-per-inch resolution) with high contrast and wide-angle viewing; and a thin profile (slightly more than 5/8 of an inch) so it can easily slip into a pocket or purse.

“Sony is taking the lead in developing “intelligent” cameras so that taking great pictures is an automatic function and not a complicated process,” said Phil Lubell, director of digital camera marketing at Sony Electronics. “This is part of our effort to enhance the camera experience for customers by offering new functionality.”

Like all of Sony\’s recent cameras, the Cyber-shot DSC-T77 has built-in memory instead of having a memory card included in the box. The T77 has a paltry 15MB of onboard memory, which holds just three photos at the highest quality setting. Thus, you\’ll want to get a large memory card, and fast. The DSC-T77 supports Memory Stick Duo media, and I\’d start out with a 2GB card.

The DSC-T77 can use two different batteries: the included NP-BD1, and the optional NP-FD1. The only difference between the two is that the FD1 has the InfoLithium feature, which allows the camera to tell you exactly how many minutes of battery life you have left. Both batteries have just 2.4 Wh of energy, which is about as low as you\’ll find.

Sony DSC T500

Autor tdomf_2061d | 16.02.2009 | Category Sony Cameras

The Sony Cyber-shot T500 is a new 10 megapixel digital camera that can also shoot HD movies. Video is recorded at 1280×720 pixels at 30fps in the MPEG4 AVC/H.264 format, with a continuous shooting time of up to 10 minutes per clip. The Sony T500 also features a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens with 5x optical zoom and optical image stabiliser and a large 3.5-inch touchscreen LCD. Available in a choice of piano black, silver and red finishes.

Movie capture on this model is further enhanced to include zoom while in recording mode and high-sensitivity shooting for natural- or low-light environments. The camera can continuously record a video clip up to 10 minutes in length. It can hold hours of clips by expanding the camera’s capacity with a Memory Stick® media card (media sold separately), which now has capacities up to 16 GB. It also features a dual photo and video capture mode. Simply press the photo button while in movie mode and capture up to three photos with no recording interruption.

sony_t500The T500 camera integrates a wide (16:9), 3.5-inch (measured diagonally), transflective, touch panel LCD screen for easy navigation, framing and viewing in strong light conditions. It has a Carl Zeiss® 5x optical zoom lens with a wide field of view (33 – 165 mm, 35 mm equivalency). It incorporates Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization and high sensitivity settings up to ISO3200 helps combat blur and facilitate flash-free shooting for natural-exposed photos. The model also incorporates face detection technology, an intelligent function that automatically detects up to eight faces in the camera frame and adjusts focus, exposure and flash.

The T500 camera connects to a compatible HD television via an HDMI™ cable (sold separately). Photos and videos can be enjoyed as slide shows in high definition for a cinematic experience. Subjects can take center stage as slideshows move through sophisticated pans, fades and wipes. Slide shows are given a boost with background music, including use of up to four pre-recorded music tracks of up to five minutes in length. You can even add your own tunes, using the bundled software.

The T500 wears a 5x (33-165mm) Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar optic with a maximum aperture range of f/3.5-4.4. It’s a different zoom than the one used on the T700, but it incorporates the same internally contained design: the lens has no protruding parts, with all movement of the zoom performed inside the body of the camera itself. Such designs are ingenious for pocket cameras, as there’s no lens barrel to damage. Conversely, lenses of this type tend to show the adverse effects of the design compromises involved – mostly in the form of soft images.

Other key features include a face detection system capable of locking onto up to eight faces, Sony’s advanced in-camera slide show tools that allow the addition of sophisticated shot-to-shot transitions and the incorporation of background music, and HDMI connectivity (via an included dock) for easily getting playback to an HDTV.

Sony DSC T700

With the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T700, shoot all day and shoot all night if you please and that is because you can. With a mammoth-sized internal memory of 4GB storing up to 40,000 VGA-sized images or up to 950 high resolution images, you can shoot an entire photo collection into this camera without worrying about having a memory card. Should you need more capacity however, an additional slot can accept Memory Stick Duo Media. A 10.1 megapixels Super HAD CCD image sensor rewards you with brilliant detail and clarity for every photo you take. Fixed with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 4x Optical Zoom Lens, it provides extra close-up shooting towards your subject and can scope out the details up to just under 1cm in the Magnifying Glass Mode.

sony-t700The T700 replaces the DSC-T300 in Sony’s lineup. Like that camera, the T700 has a 10-megapixel, 1/2.3-inch Super HAD CCD sensor, wide 3.5-inch touch-screen display, f3.5-f10 35-140mm-equivalent Carl Zeiss lens (though the zoom range drops from 5x to 4x), Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization, and shooting features like Smile Shutter, face detection with child- and adult-priority control, and iSCN Intelligent Scene Recognition. However, along with improvements made to the LCD’s picture quality (921,000 pixels up from 230,000) the T700’s internal memory jumps from 15MB to 4GB–3.7GB available for photo storage–as well as support for up to a 16GB Memory Stick DUO PRO card. The internal storage combined with the 3.5-inch touch-screen LCD and the bundled Sony Picture Motion Browser software is what turns the camera into a digital photo album.

Measuring a little more than 0.6 inch and weighing 5.6 ounces, the T700 is ultraslim and light. We tested a brushed silver version, but it’s available in gray, red, pink, and gold, too. The camera has an elegant feel with a full metal body up front and sides, and nothing but screen on the back. In fact, the only physical controls are the power and shutter buttons on top and the well-positioned zoom rocker at the right corner. The only other button is a small Playback mode button at the top right of the display. On the bottom is the battery/Memory Stick compartment, a proprietary connector for use with the included USB/AV cable, and a tripod mount. To take a picture you simply slide down the flat, metal lens cover and click away. You’ll want to be careful of errant fingers getting in shots and touching the lens, however, as the lens is positioned at the far left.

Sony’s high-contrast Xtra Fine display is quite good. At its Normal brightness setting, I had no problem seeing the screen in direct sunlight. Well, no problem after wiping away fingerprints; the T700 seems to collect more than most. If having to wipe off fingerprints is a deal breaker, you’ll want to skip this camera and probably all touch-screen models for that matter–of which there are more and more. Aside from fingerprints, you might take issue with the touch screen’s responsiveness. I found the T700’s to be fine with fingers, but better with the included stylus (or “Paint Pen” as Sony calls it) likely because I could be more precise with it. It clips onto the wrist strap and allows you to quickly poke around the three onscreen menus (Home, Menu, and Display) along with the in-camera retouching and painting tools (you can add stamps, frames, or draw on pictures) all while keeping the screen free of fingerprints.

For clear, blur-free results, the Optical SteadyShot image stabilisation provides effective stops to blurring. Thanks to a high ISO 3200, you can take pictures indoors or in low light without the need for a flash. The Sony Cybershot T700 featured Face Detection technology detects up to eight individual faces and can even distinguish between children and adults. The fun Smile Shutter technology can automatically detect and capture smiling faces. Shooting has never been made so satisfying with the 3.5-inch Xtra Fine LCD touch screen display, a wide-viewing angle display that shows a breathtaking resolution of 921k pixels and delivers extreme ease for menu navigation with touch screen operation.

Navigating the camera settings is easy enough. The Home menu gives you access to all the main features and options, while the Menu screen provides context-sensitive options; for instance, if you’re taking still pictures, you get all the shooting choices like scene modes and resolutions. The DSC-T700 offers 10 scene modes–including a new Gourmet option for shooting food–as well as the typical auto features.
