The Dell Vostro 1700 Notebook is a notebook that was designed specifically to meet the needs of the small business owner or worker. As is the case with most Dell computers, the Dell Vostro 1700 Notebook can be completely customized to meet the needs of the buyer. This includes the hardware as well as the software and means that the notebook does not include a single thing that the owner has not specifically requested. Even trialware is not included in this notebook. Rather, the notebook comes out of the box completely loaded with only the software that was requested.

The Dell Vostro 1700 Notebook offers great performance as it includes the latest generation Intel Core 2 Duo Processor. This allows it to offer up to 28% greater performance than the prior generation while also providing a longer battery life.

The 17-inch Dell Vostro 1700 is the largest model in the PC maker’s new Vostro business laptop lineup, launched this week.

The 1700 is built on the Intel “Santa Rosa” platform and features the Core 2 Duo processor, and a choice of GM965 chipset with integrated GMA X3100 graphics or PM965 paired with dedicated NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS 128MB video card. The Vostro 1700’s 17” widescreen display features 1440×900 or 1920×1200 resolution, depending on your choice.

This notebook is offered with up to 4GB of system memory. The usage of more than 3GB of RAM requires a 64-bit operating system, which is currently not offered on the laptop’s product page. Dell Vostro 1700 comes with up to 320GB of data storage capacity, which is achieved by using two 160GB SATA units at 5400rpm simultaneously.

The networking features are the same as in other Intel-based Vostros. They include wireless LAN supporting 802.11n draft standard optionally, an Ethernet LAN, a 56k modem, an optional Bluetooth, and a choice of AT&T, Sprint and Verizon mobile broadband modules. Additionally, you can purchase the 1700 with a built-in 2 megapixel web camera, mounted on the top of the display panel.

The laptop has an ExpressCard slot, five USB ports, a eight-in-one media card reader, an infra-red sensor, and a Firewire. For external monitor and TV connections, there are VGA and S-Video outputs.

Dell Vostro 1700 model features the same internal components and a chassis shape as Dell Inspiron 1720 notebook for consumers. However, Vostro 1700 is black, while the 1720 comes in eight different colors.
Both models have a numeric keypad, besides a standard keyboard.

Dell Vostro 1700 weighs up to 7.62 lbs, depending on configuration, and is available via the company’s online store.

Dell Vostro is a line of computers from Dell aimed at the small business market. Prior to Vostro, Dell’s home and small business computers were sold under the same lines: Dimension for home and small business desktops, and Inspiron for home and small business portables. With the introduction of Vostro, the Dimension line was retired, and the Inspiron line changed to include all computers for the home market — regardless of form factor. One marked difference between the Inspiron line and the Vostro line is that the Vostro line is more affordable but comes with shorter technical support hours. With the Vostro line, the customer has the option to purchase a technical support contract to get 24/7 technical support from Dell and the customer has the option not to get extended-hours technical support from Dell and pay less money for their equipment.

The Dell Vostro 1500 comes with a 15.4 inch screen and one of the best processors in the computer industry. Dell has equipped their laptop with the Intel Core 2 Duo technology that is rated at 1.6 Gigahertz processing speed. This should be fast enough to satisfy any average computer laptop user and those who use it should also be impressed with the Core 2 Duo processing technology that was included.
There is also plenty of hard drive room to store whatever you need. Business professionals and college students alike will be able to store as many documents as they need in the 160 Gigabyte hard drive. This is about twice the size of an average size laptop computer’ hard drive and should provide more than enough room for thousands of songs, multiple video files, as well as the documents that are stored. Also included with the Dell Vostro 1500 is an excellent video card option. Integrated graphics are included with this laptop, but Dell has placed the NVIDIA GeForce video card with it as well. The GeForce 8400 GS or the 8600 GS are the two options that laptop computer users can choose from when ordering this laptop. Both of the GeForce’s video cards are excellent and should be able to handle any movie or high-graphics game with excellent style and flare.

There are several other features of the Dell Vostro 1500 which make it a great Dell product. For starters, it comes with 4 USB ports so there should be no problem connecting whatever accessories are needed. Whether you want to hookup your digital camera or have multiple iPods or mp3 players, you can do all of this with the 4 USB ports that are available. In addition, there is also an ExpressCard slot so that digital camera users will be assured that they can transfer all of their pictures immediately to their computer’s hard drive. In addition to all these features, Dell can also include an optional 2.0 megapixel camera that is included right on the laptop’s hardware, as well as an optional Bluetooth feature. The Bluetooth feature would make it possible for any of the other Bluetooth pieces of hardware that laptop user’s have that they need to connect to their computer.

Furthermore the keyboard layout is alright; there are some keys added that are slightly on the right of the enter key that helped the other keys not to be huddled together too much. The noise level when typing depends crucially upon the hardness of the strokes und starts from quiet clicking to a dull stroke noise when hitting the keys hard with two fingers. We also noticed a type of “razing” noise when using the keys that mildly reduced the keyboard’s quality impression.

The top side of the notebook provides a simple impression, which is also due to the lack of additional hot keys. Nevertheless you do not necessarily need these since there are a range of silver coloured keys to control the Media Player functions, as well as the level of the sound. The output that is located below the touchpad at the leading edge.

The touchpad itself is flawless in use and responds precisely. Beside the pleasing and smooth surface – thanks to the good sliding properties – both the horizontal and vertical scrollbars also increased its ease of use.

The two touchpad keys are very easy and convenient to use, especially exampled in the soft key recoil which operates without any annoying clicking noises.

The Dell Vostro 1500 is definitely a great computer to go with if you are trying to decide whether or not to actually buy a brand new laptop. It contains many great features for the beginner user as well as offers excellent storage capacity options. Dell has certainly produced great laptops with the Vostro line!

The Dell Vostro 1310 laptop line is aimed at the small business user with features like Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2, biometric security, cable lock slot and a number of security software utilities.

Vostro 1310 laptops, which measure 12.48 x 0.94 (front)/1.47 (back) x 9.57 inches (W x H x D) with a starting weight of 4.6 pounds, are thinner and lighter than preceding generation. It features a magnesium-alloy strengthened chassis, robust hinges and sealed keyboards.

The Dell Vostro 1310 is available with a range of Intel processors (from the 1.86GHz Celeron M M540 up to the T9500 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo). There are two 13.3″ screen offerings, a 1280×800 WXGA with matte anti-glare coating and 1280×800 WXGA “TrueLife” glossy display. The notebook can take up to 4GB of RAM and Dell offers 32-bit versions of Microsoft Windows Vista Business or Windows XP Professional. The system is priced starting at $749 with integrated Intel X3100 graphics at the time of this writing, but is also available with nVidia 8400M GS dedicated graphics.

The Vostro range is aimed primarily at business users — you’ll find it in the business section of the Dell Web site — but there’s nothing to stop consumers from taking advantage of their low price tags. Most budget machines are heavy and slow, but the Vostro 1310 only weighs slightly more than 2kg and has a surprisingly good specification.

The Vostro 1310 is a decent all-rounder for everyday office tasks and Web surfing, and we reckon it’s probably a good buy in its lower specification guise. With the high-end spec that our review machine came with, however, it merely looks like a budget laptop that’s trying too hard to make it into the major league.

The Dell Vostro 1400 is a 14.1″ screen business notebook recently released. Dell is targeting small business buyers with the Vostro line of notebooks, but given the sturdy build, excellent price and option for installing Windows XP and less bloatware, models such as the Vostro 1400 might appeal to consumers as well.

The Dell Vostro range is aimed at small business, with several technology and customer service options available. Options range from processor and screen type to software and theft-insurance. We look at one of Dell’s notebook computers from this range — the Vostro 1400.

The Vostro 1400 is a sleek black machine with silver buttons for power and multimedia functions. It came supplied with Windows Vista Business edition and its 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2GB RAM give it strong performance. The 160GB hard-drive comes with a 10GB recovery partition pre-installed. There is also a DVD RW drive with dual-layer writing on the right hand side of the machine.

Dell has paid close attention to durability with hard-drive shock protection, magnesium-alloy casing and a sealed keyboard to keep out dust and moisture. The screen has sturdy, firm hinges, but we were disappointed to note that there is no latch to hold the screen closed, leaving it to rely on the hinge stiffness. The LCD is well supported producing little image distortion under pressure. The black casing is generally good for hiding dirt and other marks, although the screen-backing is inclined to pick up fingerprints. The 85Wh battery is more like something you would find on a significantly larger machine and thus a long battery life can be expected.

The 14.1-inch wide-screen has a 1440×900 pixel resolution and provides sharp images with good colour. However the highly reflective screen would not be great outdoors. There is also a Webcam capable of taking photos and video at up to a 1600×1200 resolution. Refresh rate is nothing special, but Internet lag means this is unlikely to be noticed in Web applications. The camera has excellent depth of field but does not handle colours well in exceptionally bright areas. Sound quality was quite acceptable and was produced by twin speakers located just below the screen hinges.

Ports include a pair of USB ports on either side of the machine; 1394 Firewire, network and modem. Video output is via D-sub VGA or S-video. At the front there are basic audio in/out jacks plus a reader for SD, MMC and MS/Pro memory cards. There is no facility for a port replicator. Also included is Bluetooth and Wireless-N Wi-Fi for fast networking.

The keyboard features full size keys with good tactile response. Secondary functions are shown very clearly with bright blue lettering. The touchpad felt good, but is oddly placed slightly left of the centre of the palm-rest.

The best thing about this laptop is the value. Other machines with similar specs cost hundreds more. In addition, unlike other companies, Dell allows you to choose your upgrades and personalize your machine. I also like that Dell did not install any trialware. I just took the laptop out of the box and began using it without having to reload the programs on my harddrive. The machine stays cool and quiet and has the feel of one that is more expensive.

Sony VAIO has worked with leading stylists to create the new range and believe it is a sure bet for both an uber-hip and totally portable compact notebook.

The wrap-around trim, lustrous coating and flawless finish make each notebook a true design piece. Special styling features such as smooth rounded borders and flashy lighting effects will make you stand out from the crowd. This notebook is a design first; Sony VAIO has drawn on the latest in notebook technology to create a multiple layer coating that is not only glossy and a fashion must-have but is robust enough to protect the keyboard and LCD screen inside.

The DELL XPS M1330 adopts a more streamlined and slim approach. This is really visible in the lid area of the laptop, which is a good 30 percent slimmer than in previous models. Also, unlike in earlier models, the LCD panel is on a gentle slope that flows into the keyboard area.

The finish of the laptop is another area that Dell has drastically improved upon. The M1330 has a feather-like soft plain silver finish for the area around the LCD panel and a soft silver metallic finish for the keyboard area. The lid area can be configured with a variety of colors on a soft matte finish; our test machine was a beautiful crimson red.

The hinges also have received a makeover. They are rounded, slim, and have no extra flex thanks to the sturdy material used. When you combine the weight loss, the improved lid design, and the new ’slope design’, what you get is a one elegant-looking machine.

The appeal of the laptop does not end there. The XPS M1330 has been redesigned to be even more functional than previous iterations. First off, the keyboard is a full-featured one and offers excellent tactile feedback. The touchpad is a bit smaller than usual but is well-designed and, when combined with the adequately large mouse buttons, offers very good levels of working comfort.

The LCD panel needs a special mention. It has a backlit LED panel with a native resolution of 1280 x 800 and offers some of the best contrast/brightness and black levels that I’ve seen on any laptop. The screen really jumps out at you with a vibrancy that is difficult to describe. Though the extra brightness may irritate some, once you get used to it it’s difficult to go back to a conventional screen.

In terms of its connectivity the M1330 is a bit of an odd duck. It offers a variety of external display connectivity options including HDMI, a Firewire port, and a multi-card reader. However, it skimps on the crucial USB ports and offers just two of them. This is a real letdown.

With its high-resolution widescreen display, dual-core processor, 200GB hard drive and integrated Blu-ray optical drive, the AR Series is more than just a powerful mobile computer.Whether it’s watching HD movies, editing HD content or using Blu-ray’s amazing 50GB (on double layer BD) (on selected models) capacity for backing up files or recording up to 4 hours of HD video on a single Blu-ray disc.

Thanks to the innovative use of strong but lightweight materials in its construction and attention to ergonomics in its design, the AR Series is easy to use at home or at the office and light enough for working anywhere in-between.

The AR Series features a HDMI output so that you can view HD footage and films on any HD ready TV, plus the latest NVIDIA GeForce Go graphics processor meets even the most serious gamer’s demand, while the built-in hybrid (digital and analogue) TV tuner lets you watch and record all of your favorite shows and take them with you wherever you go.
