Samsung G800
Autor Reviews | 17.02.2009 | Category Samsung Mobiles
It seems Samsung are really stepping on it in the 5 megapixel cameraphone race. In a stark display of audacity, the G800 is pitched as a digicam that can make calls. We usually deal with gadgets that are the other way around but we’ve been eager to test the Samsung G800 ever since its official launch back in late October. As you may recall, we were lucky to be there, but rubbing shoulders is nothing like getting our hands on the handset sporting the first 5 megapixel camera with optical zoom. So sit back and get ready for Samsung G800, one of the most hyped handsets lately.
Key features:
* 5 megapixel auto focus camera with 3x optical zoom and xenon flash
* Large 2.4″ QVGA 256K color display
* EDGE and 3G (with HSDPA)
* Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP support
* Comfortable keypad
* Stereo FM radio with RDS
* Stylish design
Optical zoom is not new to cameraphones – the 902 and 903 models by Sharp, as well as Nokia N93 and N93i, were equipped with cameras with optical zoom a good while ago. But in Samsung G800 it goes with a five megapixel sensor and a xenon flash, which makes this handset’s camera unmatched, at least in the number of features it offers. We are yet to see if quantity means quality but our first impressions back in October were surely positive. Finally, we have to say that the G800’s greatest market share rival will be Sony Ericsson’s top shelf cameraphone K850. It has the virtually the same specs save for the optical zoom and, in our point of view, the price will play a major role in this duel. We will refrain from including Nokia N95 here because the smartphone functionality puts it in a slightly different niche than the twosome in question.
Now, there is only one last thing that we need to mention before we cut to the chase. The unit we had for testing purposes was a final beta release candidate, so you might expect some minor changes and improvements in both software and hardware before the handset officially hits the shelves – however we don’t expect them to be many. We didn’t have any problems with it plus it came in the retail packaging that will see the handset selling.

Sony Ericsson W705
Autor tdomf_2061d | 16.02.2009 | Category Sony Mobiles
Sony Ericsson has introduced it s latest Walkman phone series Sony ericsson W705.It is a slider model and much dedicated towards music edition.Sony Ericsson W 705 comes with a 2.4″ QVGA display capable of showing up to 256K colors.It is enhanced with a 3.2mp camera ,FM radio with a RDS.It uses quad-band GSM and dual-band 3G support.It incluides Wi Fi faciltiy but Gprs is absent in this mobile.It feautures Shake control and SensMe much needed for a walk man series and has 120 MB of internal memory which can be extended by M2 card slot.
Along with it 4GB memory card included with the phone package which adds to the memory of the phone.It will be released in two model 705,705u the latter of which is for orange color phones. It will become available in Luxury Silver and Passionate Red color versions.
Including Wi-Fi in the W705’s list of connectivity options is a big step as downloading music from Sony Ericsson’s store, or whichever you prefer, will be so much faster, more convenient and less costly. It also allows you to stretch the NetFront Access browser a little more than usual and take advantage of YouTube and the Sony Ericsson picture blogging service too.
The W705 may not be much to look at, although seeing the metal casing for real will probably change this, but it does weigh just 98 grams and have a thickness of 14mm, so it will be very pocket friendly. The quoted standby of 400 hours and a talktime of 10 hours is equally impressive.
Iphone
Autor tdomf_2061d | 15.02.2009 | Category Apple Phones
The iPhone indeed is a path breaking mobile device and with multi-touch you can flick, pinch AND tap. To zoom out of a photo, pinch, to zoom in, just reverse the pinching action. It senses touches by means of an electrical field and allows very natural actions.
The legendary,sexy Apple OS X on a phone!! . And somehow Apple seem to have got the whole integration very right. Its very multitasking friendly and I only wish there was someway to control all the running applications like on Symbian OS.
This has to be one of the coolest features on the phone! In essence it is a motion sensor, which detects whether the phone is vertical or horizontal. Accordingly it changes the viewing from Portrait to Landscape.(only in apps that support it, mind)
This is another cool feature. When you get a call, the screen and your cheek make all sorts of contact, and there might be inadvertent touches. So, in order to avoid that, we have a sensor which, during a call, turns of the touch screen and saves battery.
The beautiful 3.5 inch 480 x 320 multi-touch screen is the primary input as well as output. It is easily the most stunning display i’ve ever seen on a mobile device. Period. Your fingers are the only way to operate it, and its quite the fingerprint magnet. But it is absolutely scratch resistant, and you can use your shirt sleeve or jeans to wipe it off. Better still, get a good screen protector, and life will be much better.
The on-screen keyboard is the way to enter all the numbers and letters. This one is easily the best on-screen keyboard in mobile history and can easily stake claim to be the best substitute for the physical keyboard. The iPhone uses a combination of dictionary and keymap prediction to help out typing.
There arent too many buttons around on the phone. Just a home button on the front(which takes you back to the SpringBoard or the main screen), a volume and a silent switch to the left and a Sleep/Wake button on the top. Thats it. The multi-touch screen will handle all the rest of the inputs. Thank you,very much. Also, to the top is the sim card tray. You insert a pin and the tray comes out gracefully. But, you do need a pin.
There is also a 3.5mm headphone jack to the top and Apple provides a pair of ear buds. They are the ones which can be found on iPods with a slight difference. It has a mic-cum-switch. Battery life is just too good. The claimed figures are 8hrs of talk time and around 20hrs of music.
The iPod part of the phone has been given a complete overhaul. And like Apple is advertising, it is the best iPod to date. The media integration is extremely good. Plug it into iTunes, and you’re done.
The camera is a 2.0MP unit. You can just click and watch the shutter animation. Thats about it. The image quality is pretty good, considering the fact that, there are no settings, whatsoever.
LG 500
Autor Reviews | 15.02.2009 | Category LG Mobiles
The LG500 is a GSM phone featuring a VGA camera, MP3 player with dedicated control keys on the front cover and a TransFlash memory card slot.
It has a striking design – black and silver in a long sleek casing.
The LG500 is an unusually long black-and-silver GSM flip phone. It has a TransFlash memory card slot and an MP3 player with dedicated playback keys. It supports EDGE data networks, and has a VGA camera on the flip. Its features will fit well into the middle of GSM carriers’ product lines, but the Darth Vader-style design may be a bit polarizing.
This multi-band GSM phone was built with the music lover in mind. Its clamshell design with external MP3 player controls allows the user to operate the MP3 player without opening the phone.
The phone comes with 12 MB of onboard storage, and an additional 512 MB external Trans-Flash memory card. In all, you can hold around 150 songs, up-loadable by included USB cable. Mobile internet and infrared will keep you connected — but the phone is noticeably void in the Bluetooth department.
MOTO RIZR
Autor Reviews | 15.02.2009 | Category Motorola Mobiles
The MOTO RIZR marks the Motorola’s entry into the world of slider phones, dominated largely by Samsung at the moment.
The MOTO RIZR phon is a bit thicker than the RAZR when kept side by side, but it’s a lot narrower, though not as narrow as the KRZR. The length is almost the same as the RAZR, just a wee bit longer.
The MOTO RIZR has very typical Motorola styling and it also appears just like a clamshell to many eyes. It applies RAZR-like styling to slider phones. Ever since I heard about this phone being called the RIZR, I’ve just been smiling at the aptness of the name.
It has a little ridge below the display to facilitate the slide process on the otherwise smooth phone. This ridge tends to accumulate dirt around itself very quickly and in a few weeks it’ll look like the dirtiest part of the phone. Also, the ridge is also placed a little too far away from the bottom of the phone, so its actually more convenient to use the navigation pad as a means of pushing the phone open.
The slide action is smooth and spring-loaded – just give it a push in either direction and it’ll take it from there. Sometimes the phone tends to open itself while putting it in or taking it our of your trouser pocket.
The phone fits very nicely in the hand and is comfortable to hold up and talk. It feels a little heavier than the RAZR, but it’s still quite comfortable.
The display on the MOTO RIZR is a very common 176×220 resolution screen, which sounds a little low for a phone released this late, but you have to keep in mind the fact that the phone isn’t too expensive. The display size is also a little small – much smaller than the RAZR – so the low resolution is somewhat compensated for. Pictures look good on the display despite the low resolution. Even in sunlight, the display is readable and doesn’t look washed out.
The Z3 has the standard Motorola P2K UI like the other Motorola phones. Some people like it, some people hate it. I got to grips with it with the KRZR, but somehow, I didn’t enjoy using the RIZR UI too much. Typing SMSes was extremely annoying with the iTap for some reason, and the UI is also a bit slow compared to the KRZR.
