Nokia launched N93i. It is a compact, stylish digital camcorder cum multimedia device designed to ‘unleash the movie maker’ within the consumer. The Nokia N93i is 108mm long and 58mm wide and weighs about 163g. It has a rotatable 2.4” QVGA color display with 16 million colors and a viewing angle that is 160degree wide. The new metallic finish (Deep Plum and Warm Graphite) key mat and mirror effect, 2 easy-to-use joystick, and dedicated camera keys all make for a snazzy visual effect in the N93i.

Optimized for mobile filmmaking, Nokia N93i packs a 3.2 mega pixels (2048 x 1536 pixels) camera with Carl Zeiss optics, 3x optical zoom, auto focus, and close-up mode. It comes with a 1GB miniSD card for capturing up to 45 minutes of DVD-like quality video, or up to 1,250 high quality photographs. Based on S60 3rd Edition software on Symbian OS, the N93i, according to Nokia, is the perfect choice to create video content and shoot DVD-quality videos in MPEG-4 VGA at up to 30 frames per second, with stereo audio recording, and digital stabilization.

The multimedia phone integrates a new personal video and photo blogging service called Vox, which allows easy sharing of stories/thoughts/ideas with friends and family. The bundled Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 software enables users create professional quality movies on compatible PCs. The videos can be transferred back to multimedia computers or burned onto DVDs. The N93i is designed to work on WLAN, 3G (WCDMA 2100 MHz), EDGE, and GSM (900/1800/1900 MHz) networks, and provides mobile Broadband Internet access for browsing, uploading content, sending/receiving emails, generally staying connected on the move.

Besides, thanks to direct TV out functionality, it is possible to simply connect the N93i to a compatible TV with the supplied video-out connectivity cable, to enjoy screening of one’s own movie or latest photographs. Else, integrated wireless LAN (WLAN) technology can be used to connect the phone to a compatible UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) enabled device.

The N800 is a step above the older model, the N770. It features a faster 320 Mhz TI CPU, two SD slots, 128 MB RAM, 256 MB flash storage, 4.1″ 800×480 touchscreen, WiFi, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headphones jack and mini-USB port. On the top of the device you will find the zoom buttons, the fullscreen on/off button and the microphone while on the front of the device there is a 5-way joypad and 3 additional buttons: close application/window, application’s menu and task-switch. On the left side there is a retractable VGA video-call camera. Below the device you will find a very practical kickstand, which is very nice if you are using your N800 to watch movies.

Other featres include a SD placeholder card (miniSD 128 MB included), a USB cable, a second stylus, a power adapter, a protective pouch, 3.5mm earphones with a VoIP call/reject button and some manuals. Upgrade has seen the RAM (128 MBs from 64 MBs).

The striking feature however is its WiFi reception. The next two great things in the N800 are the very nice, loud sound and the kickstand. The kickstand has two “levels of sitting”, allowing the N800 to “sit back” and make it easy for the user to watch a movie. The battery life is pretty good it reportedly manages 10 days in always-ON standby, and it manages about 5 hours of WiFi usage (screen in low backlight mode).

The software has seen an upgrade too, including Opera that now has Macromedia Flash support. Unfortunately, both YouTube’s and Google’s Flash videos are unwatchable because of the lower CPU power, update: speed is better in latest firmware one can use a Windows server running Orb to stream Flash video in the .ram format which it plays back fine, but this is not easy to do and can not be expected from normal users to do so. Opera crashed twice while using Hotmail, but other than that it worked admirably. It allows for (legit) popups/windows to open and it has full javascript support among other well-known Opera features.

The Nokia 6500 Classic telephone is one of the two new models from the Nokia 6500 series. Just like 6500Slide this model of the monoblock factor has elegant appearance, works in four diapasons GSM mobile nets and two UMTS diapasons and uses the last version of the user’s interface Nokia S40.

The Nokia 6500 classic is designed to be precisely balanced in the hand, with large keys and ergonomically correct dimensions and surfaces. Along with third generation WCDMA technology and sleek, contemporary designs, these new devices feature carefully engineered touches that help to ensure that the beauty endures.

Instantly recognizable by its seamless case crafted from 360 degrees of anodized aluminum, the Nokia 6500 classic is a 9.5mm thin statement of unsurpassed attention to detail. As an expression of individuality, each Nokia 6500 classic is individually polished, ensuring that no two phones are exactly alike, while diamond polishing used on the beveled display aperture and cold stamped logo demonstrate the highest levels of craftsmanship.

nokia-6500-classic

However, the attention to detail found in the Nokia 6500 classic is much more than skin deep. Featuring dual band 3G technology for fast and easy downloads and browsing and quad-band GSM for worldwide roaming, the Nokia 6500 classic delivers state-of-the-art connectivity options for the most demanding of customers. A full 1 GB of internal memory means that the Nokia 6500 classic has capacity for far more pictures, videos, contacts, songs, messages and other content than the vast majority of other mid-tier mobile phones.

Nokia’s dedication to usability is also evident in the Nokia 6500 classic. The Nokia Series 40 interface, familiar to millions of users around the globe, provides easy access to the powerful feature set, including a 2 megapixel camera with dual LED flash and an integrated music player. Furthermore, a unified micro-USB connector simplifies charging, audio and data connectivity by consolidating them into a single compact port. This allows for the Nokia 6500 classic to be easily used as a high-capacity flash drive or to be charged directly from a laptop computer – all with one cable.

Nokia 6500 Classic supports sending and receiving e letters an also short SMS and MMS messages. Setting and usage of the IMAP and POP3 mail boxes is not difficult. Data transfer in the GSM nets is performed by the EDGE and GPRS technologies, the high speed 3G UMTS technology is supported.

The smartphone supports wireless technology Bluetooth 2,0 EDR with the A2DP profile allowing to listen to music in wireless head phones.

The N73 Music Edition is equipped with plenty of connectivity options, but doesn’t include Wi-Fi. It still sports Bluetooth, infrared, and USB 2.0 however, and Nokia includes a USB cable in the sales package. There is also an excellent Web browser that has the ability to scroll through each page with a feature called ‘page overview’. This view shows a full Web page shrunk to fit the screen and a selection box is used to navigate to the part of the page you want to view in more detail.

Email is also included with SMTP, IMAP4 and POP3 clients supported. Email attachments can be downloaded and saved to the N73 Music Edition’s mini-SD card or to the 42MB of internal memory. The mini-SD card slot is cleverly located at the bottom of the handset. There is also regular MMS and SMS messaging with T9 predictive text input, but the poorly designed keyboard will affect messaging speeds.

The N73 Music Edition conveniently includes an adapter to plug in a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, which is handy, because the included pair only does a mediocre job. There is a digital music player with stereo audio supporting MP3, AAC, M4A, eAAC+ and WMA files. The device also includes RealPlayer, so playing full screen videos in MPEG-4 format is possible. Best of all, the N73 Music Edition is a USB mass storage device so files can simply be dragged and dropped onto the phone without using Nokia software. A stereo FM radio with 20 preset stations is also included, with all multimedia functions controlled through a stylish media menu.

Running on the Symbian 9.1 operating system, the N73 Music Edition has a full array of smart phone applications, including Quickoffice Word, PowerPoint and Excel document viewers, a host of PIM features (calendar, contacts, to-do list, notes, recorder, calculator, clock and converter) and both voice recording and dialing. We were slightly disappointed with the speed of the interface as it does struggle switching between applications. Start-up time is also a little slow, taking just over a minute.

The N73 Music Edition’s 3.2 megapixel camera features a Carl Zeiss lens, 20x digital zoom, a flash with red-eye reduction and autofocus, so it’s one of the best camera phones on the market in terms of features. While the photos it captures still don’t compare to a good compact digital camera, they are very good for a camera phone.

Capturing images at up to 2048 x 1536 pixels, the N73 Music Edition’s colour reproduction is excellent, but image sharpness is a slight problem. Shots are fairly crisp though with defined edges and excellent levels of detail for a 3.2 megapixel sensor. The also has a solid list of settings including close-up and portrait scene modes, the ability to adjust white balance, colour tone settings, and light sensitivity (ISO). For editing photos and other images, Nokia includes a copy of Adobe Photoshop Starter Edition 3.0 in the N73 Music Edition sales package.

One of the most compelling features of the N73 Music Edition is the high quality, 2.4-inch colour display. The screen is capable of 240 x 320 pixels (QVGA) and can display up to 262,144 colours. It has a great viewing angle and is clearly visible in a variety of lighting conditions. The display is ideal for use as a viewfinder with the phone’s camera and also stands out for Web browsing. It is capable of displaying all 12 menu items on one screen, so scrolling in the main menu is eliminated. The N73 Music Edition display also features an ambient light detector which is used to optimise display brightness and power consumption. This feature automatically adjusts the screen and keypad backlight depending on the conditions.

Measuring 110mm x 49mm x 19mm, the N73 Music Edition isn’t the smallest phone on the market, but it weighs just 116g.

Nokia 6210 Navigator is a beautiful phone that has created a stir in the mobiles markets. It is a wonderful handset that boasts of its navigation facility. For this purpose, an inbuilt GPS receiver has been given in it that enables the users to know the location of the places they visit all over the world. A 3.15 mega pixels camera has also been given in this stunning device that creates superb pictures. Nokia 6210 Navigator measures as 103 x 49 x 14.9 mm and weighs 117 grams. The size of the TFT screen of this device is 2.4 inch and it can show the images of 240 x 320 pixels resolution. The storage space of 120 MB is available in this handset and one can also store the pictures and videos in the 64 MB SDRAM memory. One can talk for up to 3 hour 40 minutes that is relatively better than many other phones in the similar category.

The Nokia 6210 is combined with an accelerometer that measures the changes in direction and orientation. The built in compass makes it easy to follow the map even while changing directions. The orientation is maintained even when the device is turned off. With help of the maps 2.0 application, the mobile will show the quickest way to reach the destination. With a high-speed 3.5G connectivity, detailed information about each point of interest, like the phone number or web address, is a click away.

To make car navigation easier, the device has a one-touch navigation that provides full voice guidance. In case of a wrong turn, the Navigator will automatically calculate the new route.

The device has GPS (A-GPS), which assists the GPS receiver to acquire the satellite in seconds.

Nokia 6210 Navigator can also be used without SIM cards. Local maps are pre-loaded on the 1GB memory card of the Nokia 6210 Navigator and map updates are included in the sales price. The users can also purchase multimedia city guides from premium content providers via Nokia Maps application, and freely download additional map areas via the Nokia Map loader.

Other features include faster Internet browsing, instant messaging and email with high speed 3.5G HSDPA technology. It also has a 3.2-mega-pixel camera, Mp3 player and stereo FM radio. The Navigator is based on S60 software, giving the users the liberty to use numerous applications apart from the ones already in-built into the device.

In fact, the device looks like nothing we have seen before and could be attributed only to a limited edition phone producer that would make the best of this highly expensive mobile.

The brand name is probably not a main problem with this concept design, but Nokia is receiving a great amount of credit with it, although they have done nothing here, in this specific situation, to deserve it. If it were not for the bulky edges and the back case, one might have considered this to be a Samsung handset, as this company has really showed a great amount of interest in slider phones until now.

The slider phone has a tall screen that makes no visible passage to the main navigation button. Unfortunately, the image does not reveal the handset’s buttons that can be seen once it slides. It would have been interesting to see just how the designer has thought of matching them with the smooth, clear display.

One cute feature is that, when it slides, the concept phone shows its upper back side of the front case and, with it, a surprise. There’s a small smiley face drawn on it next to writing “Smile”. This makes the handset a highly adorable one that would surely prove to be a display of personality coming from its user and also a statement phone.
