DIT is located Dehradun, approximately 240 km northwest of New Delhi. The campus is on Dehradun- Mussoorie Road (northbound), approximately 10 kms from the hustle bustle of Dehradun and just about 26 kms short of Mussoorie, via a multi- lane metalled highway. It can be conveniently reached by car or by public transport. On the campus, there is a bus terminal for local buses and the ones headed for Mussoorie and the hillsThe DIT campus is a marvel of design. It’s contemporary style can only be called “stunning” to look at. It is an art form carved our of an ingenious use of glass and concrete.

The total area of all the Buildings put together would add up to about 100,000 (one lac) square feet. The Main Building at DITis a two-story building located in the front portion of the campus. The front part of this building isair- conditioned houses the we enumeratefurther the facilities at DIT,it would only be appropriate to mention that we in our second year of operations

The entire Institute has been planned in a phased manner, so as to have a facility up and running just before the students require it. Now that one batch of students has already finished yea I, every facility that is required for the first Year is ready. And so is every facility for Year II, since we already have a batch in this Year. This list of infrastructural facilities enumerates the TOTAL list, which includes both the operational as well as the proposed facilities.

Following affiliation from the Ch. Charan Singh University and the approval from All India Council for Technical Education, Ministry of HRD, Government of India, and with funds provided by the IMS Educational Society, Dehradun Institute of Technology (DIT) was established in 1998 to produce qualified engineers and technologists who are competent in Advanced technology and proficient in communication skills. From its inception, the concept of DIT has grown considerably in size (faculty- wise, administrative personnel- wise, and student- wise) and as the project and the construction work is getting closer to the midway mark, in reputation too. The student body will increase from 200 students in its first year (1998) to 500 students in this year. Thus far, DIT has not graduated any batch of engineers, but the future engineers are now working hard in their chosen areas of specialization and will be joining a variety of organization ranging from government agencies to government enterprises to private corporations. The Dehradun Institute of Technology (DIT) although self- administered and financed, is affiliated to Ch. Charan Singh University. Graduates of the Institute shall receive the Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) Degrees from Ch. Charan Singh University, Meerut. Thus, students must comply with the policies and regulations set forth by the University. For more details, one may consult with the Director of the Institute. Students must successfully complete the course requirements (set by individual departments) to be eligible for graduation, Normally, eight regular semesters (four year) are required to complete the course.

The Library and Information Services offers an excellent collection of textbooks (in science and engineering), conference proceedings, report, technical magazines, and journals. The Library also has a computerised search system to assist students in locating their information sources. It has a Photocopy section, which provides photocopy services for students. Furthermore, students can use the DIT Library for their study and literature searches on science and engineering subjects. We also plan to have Internet access to provide search capabilities from the libraries of Engineering Colleges throughout the world. For other subjects such as economics, marketing, and management, the students can use the IMS Library at the Institute of Management Studies Campus at New Cantt. Road, Dehradun for consultation on management and computer related topics. Students who would like to study by themselves or in a group will find that studying in the Library is very convenient.

For group discussion, students can meet and discuss in the group study rooms, which provide maximum privacy and minimum interference. The Library provides high quality services, through its collection and access to wordwide information resources, to students, faculty members, and researchers for fulfilling the institute’s mission of being a Center of Excellence in Engineering and Technology. Library Resources The Library has a total floor area of 6000 square feet with a seating capacity of more than 200 at a time.

At present the Library contains more than 2000 volumes of publications including books, standards, reports, proceedings and bound journals in the fields of computers, electrical environmental, industrial and mechanical engineering, and information technology. The Library currently subscribes to numerous engineering periodicals and related subjects. Library Services Bibliographic instruction; familiarise new users with the Library’s basic services and collections, and on line access to various local and international databases. Book lending. Interlibrary loans; acquiring photocopies of articles and borrowing books from other libraries. Reference and information services. Lab

The Sem I Lab of the Computer Center has 30P200 MHz computers on a LAN running with a Pentium 350 Mhz. Server. All computers are networked to a HP Laser Jet and they are running Windows95. This Lab is used for introductory engineering courses such as Computer Tools and Science of Engineering. Students are taught the workings of software packages like MS Excel etc. from an engineering or practical example standpoint.By the end of July 99, the Center is proposed to be equipped with 125 microcomputers, (a PIII 500 Mhz server and PII 400 Mhz nodes) printers (dot matrix, inkjet and laser), computer workstations, and computer accessories for students to use on engineering graphics design, mathematical problem solving, and professional report preparation. Up-to- date software packages are installed on these computers and on the local area network (LAN) system, which allow students to become familiar with their applications. The Computer Center also has state-of-the- art teaching aids for classes, which need a demonstration of software applications. The LAN system is connected to the Internet and the service is provided to DIT faculty members, staff, and students. The Computer center will offer all sorts of platforms and working possibilities. UNIX, LINUX, NT, Novell, you name it and we are going to have it.

LABORATORIES The Institute has set up some more labs which are again state of the art and are meant for Practicals in subjects such as Physics and Chemistry. These labs have the latest equipment and instruments for experiments in the subjects. All laboratories at DIT have high safety consciousness and are designed and equipped according to the essential safety factors guidelines for labs in such Institutes. DIT has The Physics lab The Chemistry Lab The Electrical Lab The Electronics Lab The Computer Lab And the Mechanical Lab. In addition to the above, we propose to inaugurate the following labs by the end of July, 99 Computer Programming laboratory Microprocessor laboratory Digital Electronics laboratory Microwave laboratory Electrical Machines laboratory Electrical and Electronic Measurements laboratory Mechanics of Solid laboratory Kinematics of Machinery laboratory Foundry, Welding and Forming laboratory Fluid Mechanics laboratory Dynamics of Machinery laboratory Material Science laboratory
DIT offers a central workshop with the following sections, where the ‘Engineers’ can gather hands- on gather hands- on experience in stimulated environments.
Smithy Shop
Fitting Shop
Foundry Shop
Welding Shop
Carpentry Shop
Machine Shop and
Sheet Metal Shop

DRAWING HALL DIT has separate Drawing Halls where the Engineering Graphics classes are held and the students can gather practical experience and fine -tune their Drawing skills.
