Southern Technical College (STC) is a technical school dedicated to giving the best education possible in the few programs they offer. Being a specialized school, Southern Technical College has only 3 programs to choose from. This is because all of the resources of the college go into producing the best graduates possible from these programs. If an applicant is looking to get an education in one of the three fields they offer, then they can be assured that Southern Technical College will be there to provide some of the best training in the industry. The programs offered include Applied Technology, Business Office Administration, and Medical Assisting.
Applicants to the Southern Technical College should have a high school, or equivlent, diploma. All applicants should schedule a tour of the campus facilities and to plan on visiting the admissions office to fill out paper work and take care of class scheduling. Students should also meet with an admissions advisor who will go over the applicants goals with them, and plan their course load and post-college career path with them. All students should also tour the Orlando area if they are not from Florida, and get familiar with the exciting city the campus is located in.
All of the faculty and staff and Southern Technical College are there to help their students succeed by giving them the most detailed and intuitive education in the programs offered. Together with the lab and equipment facilities, faculty are able to provide their students with the tools, confidence, and skills necessary to enter the work place. Professors are always available for extra help, and there are tutoring services available to help students get the most out of their education to prepare themselves for the work environment or transfer to another school.
The students at Southern Technical College are all career, goal oriented people ready to take that next step in their lives. With no on-campus housing, all students must commutte to campus from the surrounding Orlando area. That does not stop most students from forming friendships that last a life time, and sometimes follow into the work force as the colleges excellent relationship with employers usually means large groups of students get hired from graduating classes.

As soon as I arrived on campus for the campus tour, It felt like I was a car dealership with a salesman trying to sell you their most expensive model. Was very interested in the HVAC ‘Diploma’ 9 month Program. However when I asked for information, a ‘counselor’ said that this was only an associate degree program. Also when I told him that the brochure that was handed to me clearly pointed out that you can either do a diploma course, or the two year associate course, I was told that the ‘diploma’ course was for people who already had an associate degree. People with an associate degree can add this HVAC diploma to their already existing associate degree. With that said, their brochure clearly says: “Heating and air conditioning is one of the hottest jobs in Central Florida. Graduate from STC’s HVAC Program in just 9 months and qualify to work on residential equipment.” Their website says “..residential and commercial equipment.” I dont know why a supposed credible school would require someone to already have an associate degree to take a 9 month diploma course. You are going to get hired as an entry level employee whether or not you have an associate degree or a certificate to work on an AC unit. Some may read this and think ” the guy with the associate degree will have the advantage”. Thats correct, but in my situation Im already employed, and am trying to make myself more valuable by obtaining this certification.
I called the Auburndale Campus and was told that they are not currently offering diploma courses because all of their students are were seeking associate degrees. If you dont give your students a choice, there is no doubt they will choose what you give them.
The Verdict: Why would a school ONLY offer associates degree in Medical assisting and HVAC when a person can earn almost as much if not the same amount of money with a certificate? The answer, you cant charge $28,000 for a 9 month course. Just throw in a few math, science and language classes, and you can call it an associate degree program.
Finally I will add what I saw at the Sanford Campus.
The building is a converted bank. Complete with bullet resistant windows at the drive through.
The HVAC Class room looks like a small cramped employee lounge.
The computer lab is a large empty room with computers a few computers lining the bare walls.
The Medical assisting room was bare, with a couple pulmonary diagrams on an easel, and a dry-erase board.
Buyer Beware, For the price Southern Technical College is asking, Go to a real community college! They have great programs and flexible schedules!
