The YZF R15 is the India’s first bike with 150cc liquid cooled engine. Yamaha has brought lot of advanced technologies which are usually used in higher displacement engines for this 150cc bike. Here are few highlights of YZF R15’s hi-tech engine.
YZF R15 makes use of DiASil (Die-casting Aluminum-Silicon) cylinder. The DiASil Cylinder is an all-aluminum cylinder made possible by an exclusive Yamaha aluminum forging technology. Because it uses a 20% silicon aluminum alloy, it is possible to create a cylinder wall that is so hard and durable that it eliminates the need for a conventional steel cylinder sleeve. And, because the cylinder is all aluminum, it has excellent heat dissipation qualities (cooling capacity is improved by 60% and reduces engine weight (by 30%) at the same time.

YZF R15 makes use of forged piston (India’s first) which enables lighter piston design and excellent power developement. YZF R15’s 4-valve combustion chamber adopts centrally mounted spark plug and six hole type injector which leads to path breaking performance.
A compact radiator cools the engine to maximize stablity and performance. Similar to the R1, Yamaha has adopted a six speed transmission for its new 150cc YZF R15. Optimized ratios will help you to keep the motor singing in the high-rpm range throughout all the gears.
YZF R15 must be the most compact bike in its class. It’s overall length is 1070mm, overall width is 670mm and its wheels base is 1290mm. Since sporty YZF R15 is shorter too and its height is just 1070mm. YZF R15 150cc features F 80/90 -17 inches tyres in the front and 100/80-17 inches tyres in the rear. Both the tyres are tubeless.

Dear Brothers of Bike Yamaha yzf R 15 is the best bike on Indian roads as of now.And for the coming years Yamaha is and would be the leading biker.About R 15 ‘6 gears’as of now no other bike has it.Its the atmost bike of its class you would really feel the real racing spirit at the top gears above 5000 rpm the best smooth bike ever in Indian market available with a huge pick up, just withdraw the throttle and you could feel the real speed master in you.it has 4 valves and a single spark plug at its centre which rules out twin sparks. Its a dito of R1 Yamaha.Liquid cooled engine.17 Bhp which could be tuned by service people to 20-22 bhp in ECU for those who dont care of mileage. The tyres are the best for compared to any other bike in market.tube less designed for R15 with special grip a sort of cutting and gumming to roads at speeds of above 80.have you ever heard of anybike cornering at 100 without shifting gears down.it gives the atmost cornering you should try it for they are the best for cornering and mileage.seen the ad of yamaha r15 its the same you could tried with those tires.no woggling at high speeds unlike other power bikes in market.aerodynamically designed.easy to drive even at city conditions.drawn 4 stroke before you feel like and kick for a one more gear many a times don’t you.here its 6 lavish .engine is Satisfying than any other in Indian Market for the Indian Roads.more pick up 60- 100 in sec in your hands. The best bike build with a variety of Accessories including handle clutch silencer, nuts and bolts with yamaha design and stickers even a single seat option couling which you can take off when required.sport bike stand and suites.R 15 bikers you really deserve the Best.no need of alternating and customisation with extra money for those who need, company itself has made them, the very best.to be driven and performed.R15 riders enjoy the ride you are the BEST!

Hi,
Actually I do not want to rate it. I did not get a test drive and just had a chance to see it and also got the Tech Specs. At least as available in showroom , it is not VFM. If it had been 22 BHP or more, then only it would have been real Bajaj P220 beater. Current specs show that in terms Power to Weight ratio, it is behind P220 and hence, P220 will still be the R15 beater under normal conditions (i.e. in cities and general highways). I think R15 will beat it on the RACE TRACK for sure due to superior handling.
I was a die hard fan of old Yamaha bikes such as RX100 and RD350. However, after using P180 DTSI for last 4 years (I’m still using it happily) and also seeing the kind of products Yamaha has launched (except R1/MT01) I feel Bajaj will remain the leader of performance biking in India for some more time (unless Yamaha/Honda launch something in 250 cc segment and Bajaj DOESN’T!!)
I will not be smitten by a bike just because it has a Yamaha nameplate. Homegrown Bajaj P220 is certainly still the champion and any pretender will need to prove it on real roads (not race tracks!)
Pulsar 220 has more power, relatively better serviceability, lower price and most of the advanced features of any modern bike (many of them were first ever for India). So, R15 doesn’t cut it yet! Even its racy looks are spoiled by skinny tyres which feel too small.
Bring on something that beats RD350 cleanly and costs 1.5 lakhs and I’ll go for it!
Regards,
Jeevan

i personally think that the rear whells should have had big tyres as it would have gone well with the comp. masculine look of the vehicle
